CD Projekt Red revealed The Witcher 4 this week during The Game Awards 2024, and as one would expect, it was one of the shows since they showcased it, there has been certain criticism leveled at the title as well as its heroine Ciri. Some fans were unhappy seeing her replace Geralt of Rivia, while others felt the difference with her likeness was too far from the Ciri in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Two differences can distinctly be pointed out. Ciri is now a Witcher: She looks different now, but it must be stated to some degree that since she is older than in the previous game, this is to be expected. In terms of technology, the last time we saw her was during the period of the PS4 and Xbox One generation in 2015. Technology has changed since then, and the industry to some extent has also changed in what is considered design trends. Further, all of this can at least be explained because it is a cinematic trailer. Geralt and the other characters look quite different in the reveal cinematics for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt compared to how they do in actual gameplay.

They also noted in a subsequent post on the character’s subreddit that there has been yet another change. While Ciri has had high-heeled boots for a long time, this wasn’t sensible considering the lack of practicality. Many fans agree that Yennefer and Triss being in high heels sounded right, but it never sat straightforward with Ciri. It makes even less sense with her new status as a Witcher.
