Localising the Game into the wide array of languages is not a small thing. While expediting the process, a newly publicized Sony patent has a translation tool which could drastically speed up the game development pipeline.
For the people from the West, it is simple. All they do is just s, boot up the game and enjoy the default English approach. But when it comes to others around the world it changes everything. To get the same experience it can be a herculean task requiring translators, localizing experts, Voice actors and many more additional manpower.
Let’s take an example like Cyberpunk 2077. Which gives 5,381 developers listed in the game credits, 2,456 of them, and 45% were a part of localization efforts as Polygon revealed this year.
Each year everything goes with similar meticulous process, it differs based on the scope of the game and how many kanguanges are beeing translate. Many big titles game might event takes months and years in the project.
Sony has okans for the new software which could smoothen all out. A 2023 patent filing was published back on March 5, 2025, as Tech4Gamers discovered, and this could be a game-changer for the development of future games.
Sony Patents System
As it says, the developed have to shift through the lines of dialogue, and check inaccuracies in lip syncing and then reanimate the facial movement if the time and budget permit. The new software from Sony could have expedited the process.
The patent describes the system as Translation Language evaluation Device, this evaluates the NPC mouth movement across a range of lounges. The software gives similarity score, localization developers have areas which are lacking and areas which have held up through the translation process.
The tool can help in minor adjustment of the facial animation, which possibly ameans automating , streamlining hours of lip sync work. In simple words it automatically make NPC mouth movements look more accurate and natural in other languages.
