A man who helped steal roughly $300,000 worth the of trading card game TCG products at the Gen Con 2023 is now sentenced. Among other consequences, they have been forced to pay $27,000 to Magic: The Gathering creators Wizards of the Coast, while also penning an apology letter to the community.

Two men were seen stealing and reported $300,000 worth of TCG product the day before the Gen Con 2023 kicked off. The pair was soon identified by the Indiana Plocice Department and ever since they were waiting the charges.
Gen Con Thief sentenced to pay up

The two men in the 40s were identified as Thomas Dunbar and Andrew Giaume. Both were charged with the felony theft upon being linked to the $300,000 heist on Augest 2,2023.
Looking at local authorities outlined they have used pair a pallet jack to take packets of Magic The Gathering, Pokemon and Disney Lorcana Cards.
While Giaume’s trial is set for July 2025, Dunbar has now been handed the sentence. Having taken to plea to first dismiss the felony charge, the man and his since been sentenced to lower level theft charge. This means rather than taking two years in jai,l and now in probation and pay restitution.
Dunbar been ordered to pay an undisclosed sum to the president to Pastimes Games, and a further $27,141 USD to the Wizards of the Coast. All the items recovered from the heist must also be returned to the Wizards of the Coast.
David Hoppe who is the president of Gen Con stated in the IndyStar that the Gen Con is pleased to see the offender was brought to justice and applauds to security, IMPD and the Marion County Prosecutor for the work they did in the case.
At last Dunar also agreed to stay away the Gen Con event for two years
