Source code for Fallout 1 and 2 were long though lost, as they actually been safe preserved for decades and cofounder of inrerplay has revealed.
Created by Tim Cain and released by Interplay in 1997 for PC and Mac, Fallout was followed by a sequel in 1998. A third game, codenamed Van Buren, was ultimately cancelled in 2003.
Interplay sold the Fallout IP to Bethesda in 2007 to avoid bankruptcy, with many Van Buren elements used in 2010 Fallout: New Vegas.
In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel on April 24, Cain Stated that his belif that the source code for Fallout, along with the countless accompanying assets, which had been destroyed long time ago.
Cain also revealed that the Interplay, have lost the source code, he had contacted him years after he departed the company in search.
Cain also stated that the amount of studd which had been lost about the Fallout and it is early development saddens and also he added that he had that wild and was ordered to be destroyed.
Fallout 1 & 2 Source Code Not Lost

On May 2, Rebecca Heineman, one of the interplay founder also revealed that to VideoGamer which she has been maintaining copies of every title released by Interplay before her departure in 1995, where it also included the first two Fallout games as well.
Looking at Cain, Heineman had concerned over lack of care for game preservation, and also made that her quest to ensure nothing was lost.
She stated that she made it a quest to take everything and archive it on CD ROMs and when she left the Interplay in 1995 she had copies of evey game she did. Later when she did MacPlay, which was existed beyond the tenure at Interplay and every game was ported it also included Fallout 1 and 2.
Well could Heineman revelation lead to the games source code revela online, or it was yet remastered in the same vein as Oblivion? Well there are no such decision would ultimately be Bethesada to make. Heineman is busy with other works stated rhat she simply did not got around the studio for permission.
Fallout 4 was released back in 2015, which remains the new line up inseries and was adapted for TV in 2024 for Amazon Prime Video.
